The State of the Artist # 7

I’m now being challenged by questions: What is Art? Does Life imitate Art? Does Art mirror Life? Can Art exist without Life? Can life exist without Art? Can you see Art all around you? Are you an observer of that Art? Are you a part of it? Would it exist without you? Does a gallery […]

The State of The Artist # 6

by Marvin Kanarek “Body Of Work” is here, let’s see where this goes… Someone who designs a single house is not an architect. Someone who writes a single song or set of lyrics is not a songwriter. A person who owns a musical instrument is not a musician. A single drawing or painting or photograph […]

The State of the Artist # 5

It’s back. I’m not sure why I was left with “Body Of Work”. It’s obvious to me right now that it won’t be pursued during this writing. Hoping it’s tossed at me again at a later date. Right now what is resonating within me is, acceptance of praise and criticism and the meaning of Art […]

The State of The Artist # 4

by Marvin Kanarek I was going to do something else right now. I was outside having a smoke. Something came in again. So I’m sitting here getting it out before it goes away. Three words: – Sacrifice, Selfishness, Balance. When that “moment arrives” it’s only you tapping into and following that energy (Muse?), before it […]

The State of The Artist # 3 – The Muse

I’m sure there are dictionary definitions of the word Muse. I or you can look it up. Maybe I will when this cycle has passed through me. I had heard a great story about a Scottish poetess who was out walking on her land one morning when all of a sudden she felt the presence of the Muse. She hurried home as fast as she could. Her pace was quickened by the fear that if she didn’t get back soon enough, the muse would pass through her and go on to inspire another poet! Interesting. I think that’s part of what this Muse energy is.

The State of the Artist # 2

by Marvin Kanarek I just had an epiphany, maybe it’s The Muse, I don’t know. So I guess I’m fated to continue at least ‘til the end of this little story. I’m a true “dyed in the T-shirt” Hippy way back when during the Yorkville days in Toronto. Living the life of music, free love, […]

The State of the Artist # 1

by Marvin Kanarek I’ll try as best I can to describe the journey, the psyche, the attitude, the denial, the acceptance and anything else I can touch upon that might illuminate this elusive universe that I call “The State Of The Artist? It’s a state of mind, spirit and necessity, that is highly romanticized, clearly […]

Actor Vincent Lindon from Benjamin Kanarek’s Archives

I was taking a stroll in my neighborhood tonight and as I walked by a couple of men speaking, I hear a familiar voice that I know using a profane French word “Connard” which means asshole. I spun around, looked closely and I was surprised to find that standing there was one of the Great French Actors Vincent Lindon.
