Professional Photography, Amateur Photography

So you wanna be a pro?

by steve jacob above photo © steve jacob Over the last few years I’ve had the chance to meet and chat with many professional photographers about the state of their businesses. Some were philosophical, some grumpy, some gloomy and some were searching the small ads, but the prevailing message was, “photography is a harder way […]

Breaking Down the Walls of Predictability…

On one of the photography forums dpchallenge, a photographer who read my article “A Funny Thing Happened to Me in the Camera Store” responded by saying “…thanks for sharing. Still waiting for my (lucky) accident”. I thought about her remark and my response was the following; Whenever you are about to do what you think […]

Is Shooting for a Bad Magazine Good?

Today on a generalist Photo Forum under the Portrait Fashion category, someone from a small independent and in my opinion based on what I saw on their web site, not very good fashion magazine, placed an ad for photographers for their magazine. Now that seemed strange in the first place, which I go on to […]

“Eyes of Laura Mars”

Eyes of Laura Mars I was inspired to write this short introduction to this film from 1978 starring Faye Dunaway called “Eyes of Laura Mars” by someone on a photography forum that said that some of my imagery reminded him of the film.  I had totally forgotten how affected I was by this film as […]
