Bouncing from Extravagance to Rigor

As sung by Anna Dello Russo in her “Fashion Shower” video for H&M: “nothing sexy like excess”. Well, for Spring/Summer 2013, we’ll fall into the excess, the immoderation of our moods.

While depression settles in the world, we’ll think about the past to escape it: the eighties are the perfect era to celebrate and enjoy life, and to feel the golden age of excess. We’ll praise the cultural legacy and style of Grace Jones, Madonna, Michael Jackson or even Eurythmics’ singer, Annie Lennox by wearing Jean-Paul Gaultier.

We will continue in our extravagance in showing topless, melting our gold to apply it as a day cream, as in A.F Vandevorst. In our wildest days, we will have fun by dressing in Junya Watanabe and Issey Miyake: flashy colors to attract all eyes on us, unlikely looks to make people react and make them wonder about our own mental state.

We will slam our bank account in travelling, we will come back dressed in Manish Arora to look like Indian actresses in Bollywood movies, hidden behind tons of golden jewelry by Amrapali and pieces aux allures exotiques such as Vivenne Westood.

But after doing many spendings, we will receive a call from our banker to tell us we’re brankrupt. We’ll be so depressed we’ll put back all our extravagant clothes in the closet, and will turn Haider Ackermann, Yohji Yamamoto and Alber Elbaz (Lanvin) into psychologists to drown our depression: black will be the new black. No way though to like a garbage, we’ll dress in black but with glamour and a relaxed chic.

We’ll become so annoying by trying to stay good by wearing Dior by Raf Simons, we’ll find the world so ugly we will hide our eyes behind large hats as seen at Chalayan or embroidered visors signed by Peachoo + Krejberg.

But fortunately a large distant aunt will die and will leave us a fortune that will help us out of this depression. We’ll retain our mistakes and will choose Mugler and Loewe to stay sober but still showing somewhat behind faultless silhouettes our beautiful shapes. Spring / Summer 2013 promises to be already loaded for us all, but let’s try to moderate not only our spendings but also our moods. Otherwise, there is always the Anna Dello Rosso collection for H&M…
