The celebration will last two days and begins at sundown. Here are all the key facts to know. The year in the Hebrew Calendar is 5777.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/benjaminkanarekblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Celebrate-Rosh-Hashanah-2015-Jewish-New-Year.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33911\" src=\"http:\/\/benjaminkanarekblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Celebrate-Rosh-Hashanah-2015-Jewish-New-Year.jpg\" alt=\"Happy Jewish New Year 2016\" width=\"2202\" height=\"1645\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>What is Rosh Hashanah?\u00a0<\/strong>Rosh Hashanah literally translates as \u201chead of the year\u201d or \u201cfirst of the year.&#8221; But it also marks the anniversary of the birth of the universe via God\u2019s creation of Adam and Eve. In Judaism, it is a day to reflect on a person\u2019s deeds of the past year and set the tone for the year ahead.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/benjaminkanarekblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/31395505-Colorful-seamless-pattern-with-symbols-of-Rosh-Hashanah-Jewish-New-Year-Stock-Vector.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33912\" src=\"http:\/\/benjaminkanarekblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/31395505-Colorful-seamless-pattern-with-symbols-of-Rosh-Hashanah-Jewish-New-Year-Stock-Vector.jpg\" alt=\"Happy Jewish New Year 2016\" width=\"1299\" height=\"1300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0It occurs on the first and second days of the Jewish month of Tishri, which is the seventh month of the religious year but the first month of the civil year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rather than wishing someone \u201chappy New Year,\u201d the common greeting is L\u2019shanah tovah, literally \u201cfor a good year.\u201d This is shortened from \u201cL\u2019shanah tovah tikatevi v\u2019taihatemi\u201d to women, or to men \u201cL\u2019shanah tovah tikatev v\u2019taihatem.
